The Nightman Cometh is my favorite episode of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Posted by Eric From Cali on 30 Jun 17 at 14:32. Leave a comment. Have you got any tips or tricks to unlock this. The Nightman Cometh is a musical theater performance act on the first season of FantasyBGT.

TRIVIA[edit]

Title of the quest is an obvious reference to the show 'Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia'. The nightman is a recurring character/song in the show and 'The Nightman Cometh' is the name of the episode where they make a musical out of the Nightman. Check out the wiki page of the show to find out for yourself. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by58.69.9.163 (talk).

I've always thought this was the 'NIGHTMARE' cometh. 220.255.215.160 15:36, 21 November 2009 (UTC)
I gotta agree, Sunny in Philadelphia was the first thing I thought of. --The preceding unsigned comment was added byUser:Bloodvayne (talk).
First thing I thought of was the book of John line. And I'm not even religious. (course, I don't watch that sunny show). -- Konig/talk 20:49, 21 November 2009 (UTC)

I'm Pretty sure this is a reference to Ozzy Osbourne's 'The Ozzman Cometh', A compilation of his greatest Hits. --Here's A signature. Happy? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by24.110.253.157 (talk).

I'm pretty sure The Ozzman Cometh is a reference to The Iceman Cometh.
Here is the problem with trivia, especially famous trivia. Everyone has different experiences; therefore, different things are familiar to some people, and unfamiliar to others (obviously). For example, if I have a tree in my backyard that drops a single acorn each September, and some famous song is released called 'One Acorn September', I immediately think of the tree in my backyard, even though the band has never seen my tree. On a larger scale, if you spend a lot of time listening to Ozzy Osbourne and other rock figures, then even though the world before that album was released was majorly shaken by a play by o'Neil, you're going to be quite convinced it's from the 'much more familiar' experience -- sadly, only to some people.
By the way, 'The Nightman Cometh' is a reference to that creepy guy in my dreams who comes dressed as a clown; no question :o 72 (U T C) 19:10, 26 November 2009 (UTC)

Party Wipe?[edit]

I plan on fighting Dhuum tonight, but I was wondering if it's possible for the party to wipe from simultaneous death once this quest is active. From the quest description, it sounds like the party would be expelled if all of the reapers die, but the whole 'respawn as a spirit' part is confusing me. ^^; Zoe 21:36, 21 November 2009 (UTC)

From what I understand, the Reapers can all die and you won't be expelled. Also, as long as your party doesn't wipe, you're fine. The spirit thing is just a 'second chance' - or think of it as an auto rez, with a changed skill bar. Someone had said that the party wipes if just one player as a spirit dies, so I am not completely sure on this. -- Konig/talk 22:40, 21 November 2009 (UTC)

All the reapers can die as long as the party doesn't wipe. This does make it increasingly difficult though and definitaly not recommended. And no, if a spirit party member dies you dont get kicked out, well that didnt happen for me tonight 94.6.54.237 23:51, 21 November 2009 (UTC)

Can someone else verify this? I was in UW today, we had two people who hadn't died (or turned into spirits), but when the reapers died, the quest updated, and when it got to 0, we were kicked out. Quest text also suggests they MUST stay alive. 71.146.64.93 09:58, 6 December 2009 (UTC)
As long as one reaper lives, your in the clear, once ALL reapers die, you're kicked (this was not the case originally, as there is a screen shot of all reapers dead). So there are two ways to fail at Dhuum: Everyone dies twice (that is, permanently dead minus the use of a Resurrection Scroll), or every reaper dies. -- Konig/talk 17:29, 6 December 2009 (UTC)

No ressing[edit]

The area of effect thing sucks but if you use UA before entering it can grant you a ress although you can't use UA once you're in. 94.6.54.237 23:51, 21 November 2009 (UTC)

How do I get this quest?[edit]

There is nothing that says what I have to do in order to get this quest.. --Karasu(talk) 15:54, 22 November 2009 (UTC)

Once all the other Underworld quests are done, you take this quest from King Frozenwind outside the Hall of Judgement. -- Konig/talk 20:37, 22 November 2009 (UTC)

Suggestion[edit]

Dhuum should turn of his caps lock 80.60.80.108 22:47, 22 November 2009 (UTC)

Spelling Error?[edit]

On the main page reward dialog, it says 'the thread of Dhuum has subsided.' Should it be 'threat,' or is that an in-gate error?140.209.227.18 03:10, 23 November 2009 (UTC)

I am not sure. I copied the information from the wikia (they are faster at filling in dialogue then this wiki it seems) so I have yet to see the actual in-game dialogue. -- Konig/talk 04:08, 23 November 2009 (UTC)
It's probably a spelling error, Anet will probably fix this in one of their updates. Reaper of ScythesTalk 15:51, 23 November 2009 (UTC)

This is clearly a sign that, prior to becoming an evil god-o-doom, Dhuum was a forum user. A thread he posted then got closed, he got banned, and in his fit of omgwtfrage, he became a god. Simple enough, really.69.249.223.63 19:29, 6 December 2009 (UTC)

Trust me on the trivia[edit]

One of my BA's is in world religions, and the phrase 'the Night Cometh' is more famous in eastern Christian traditions than the 23rd Psalm is in the US, but it's common for apocalyptic-like literature to be more famous there. --KarateJesus15:05, 24 November 2009 (UTC)

What Episode Is The Nightman Cometh
I would also like to add that ArenaNet has a constant case of adding religious and mythological references - which has increased ever since Nightfall. I think that the quest name is based more on the bible passage than on a TV show they may or may not watch - which, the 'Nightman' from It's Always Sunny in Philidalphia, or at least the episode name, is most likely a reference to the Night Cometh. I'd say it is safer to think the oldest possible reference - which shares similar criteria as other references - is more likely than another possible reference just because some people watch that show. -- Konig/talk 15:20, 24 November 2009 (UTC)
It'd be from the much more famous play, not the show. Know why I know? The show took it from the play. And Karate Jesus, I don't advise making your request for trust be for something you're speculating on. Anyway, I just changed it from 'most likely' to 'could have', which I think is valid. 72 (U T C) 01:32, 25 November 2009 (UTC)

What item?[edit]

Dayman Fighter Of The Nightman Lyrics

My respect is well deserved, as is this token of material wealth that I know the living value so highly. take it with my thanks and praise.' -King Frozenwind.what is he referring too? the UW chest? Jonny10 16:34, 24 November 2009 (UTC)

The gold you get as the quest reward. -- FreedomBound 16:41, 24 November 2009 (UTC)
I think it is both the rewarded gold, and whatever you get from the chest. Because, frankly, he is right - GW players who do UW are more interested in the chest rewards than anything else. :P-- Konig/talk 17:53, 24 November 2009 (UTC)
Right, but it's the gold you get from him, the chest spawns elsewhere. -- FreedomBound 17:55, 24 November 2009 (UTC)
The chest spawns nearby him though. Remember, the chest is now within the Hall of Judgement. -- Konig/talk 18:01, 24 November 2009 (UTC)
But it doesn't spawn as a result of talking to King Frozenwind. The only 'token of material wealth' that he directly gives you is the gold as part of the quest reward. Other NPCs use similar language. -- FreedomBound 18:04, 24 November 2009 (UTC)

Walkthrough[edit]

I find the Walkthrough section a bit unclear. Do we have to damage Dhuum at all or do we just stay alive until his bar is full. The 25%, is that the amount you have to damage him when his bar gets full? ... If someone would clarify this a bit, it would be nice. Class 17:54, 14 December 2009 (UTC)

When the bar is full, you hit him till he's at 25%. I'll edit it right now. 72 (UTC) 18:24, 14 December 2009 (UTC)

Implementation?[edit]

Was this quest added with Thursday, November 19, 2009? I think it would be worth mentioning the implementation date in all those Dhuum-related articles, since other Underworld quests are all already available for years as opposed to this one. —ZerphaThe Improver 15:20, 28 December 2009 (UTC)

'*The Marketplace was added in 2006 with the release of Factions.' '*Prophet Varesh was added in late 2006 with the release of Nightfall. This is different than Prophecies which was released prior to this.' 72 (UTC) 16:07, 28 December 2009 (UTC)

What about the heroes?[edit]

Ive been wondering, what happens when a hero dies while fighting Dhuum? do they return to the hall with you? i keep getting a vision that they'll try to auto route back to you once they die and become a spirit, leaving them trapped outside. Anyone been able to get a hero this far to answer my question? Typhoon Wynn 19:32, 27 May 2010 (UTC)

I have the same question. I have heard of teams taking heros in with them, but never had anyone confirm whether heros automatically talk to the Mayor so they can return to the battle. Thanks! --J E T 17:22, 4 June 2010 (UTC)
Talk:Dhuum#Heroes suggests that heroes come back in spirit form with a spirit form skill bar. When they do come back, I believe it's important to disable the skill Encase Skeletal on their skill bar. Kirbett 15:17, 28 June 2010 (UTC)

Indeed, we have tested it, heros do come back in spirit form. If anyone remains sceptical I have screens to prove it. PaulAppell 11:27, 30 July 2010 (UTC)

Glitch on Dhuums death[edit]

Upon killing Dhuum the other day (right as his life expired) my entire party was DCed and immediately not let back in. Anyone else ever experienced this? I've never seen a group DC in GW before this, only single players. The Alice 19:00, 26 October 2010 (UTC)

This has been an observed bug. I doubt Anet will fix this anytime soon, thus best to focus on the 25% health mark and filling the meter, killing him only leads to your 'dhumm' :P ~~000.00.00.00~~ 19:08, 26 October 2010 (UTC)

Unclear[edit]

All these mentions of death / mayor / ressurection....None are clear on the following point:Is there a chance to use rez scroll to bring back party member as NORMALOr are you only talking (rez scroll) to bring the spirit version of them backie - Should I avoid talking to the mayor if my party has a functional rez?

You can't use ressurection skills while in the hall, and if you use a res scroll, your party members will be resurrected, still in Spirit Form. Power WM 22:06, 6 March 2011 (UTC)

Clarification on coming back as spirit?[edit]

Emergency Season 1

My understanding was that if a party member died they had the option of coming back as a ghost rather than being a floor decoration for the duration of the battle. Did I misunderstand this or was my party the victim of a bug? None of us ever got moved to the mayor and mainly laid there staring up Dhuum's skirt. Needless to say, it did not go well. Pendaran 08:52, 19 March 2011 (UTC)

When you die at Dhuum the first time (as a human) you will be transformed into a ghost and teleported to the forgotten vale. In there you can run around, use the ghost skills etc. If you talk to mayor algheri he will allow you to return to the hall of judgement as a ghost. (It's a bad idea for the whole party to stay in vale because Dhuum will walk around and kill all the reapers, thus kicking you out of the underworld). If you return to the hall as a ghost and die again, you will now leave a corpse and either need to be resurrected by a scroll or wait until the underworld is completed. Power WM 16:57, 20 March 2011 (UTC)

Undocumented Quote[edit]

Dhuum has a quote that's undocumented on here, that I found in a recording I made of a fight with him the other day. Screenshot I'll go ahead and add it to the article, if that's alright. MadrukDhuum 19:51, 8 June 2011 (UTC)

Just how large an undertaking is this?[edit]

I've done all of the quests at various times in pickup groups and with heroes but never all the way through so I'm having a little trouble guessing how big a chunk of time I'd need to have for this quest. Any guidelines? Longer than first time through Urgoz? under 3 hours if no near wipes? It would be nice to squeeze in in time to collect the reward for The Waiting Game this year but if even experienced groups usually take longer than 3 hours I doubt it would ever be worth it to try. Maybe there's some sort of guideline that could even be placed in the article? It would have to be a range surely. A long estimate for new groups that encounter no serious problems and short estimate for experienced veteran groupsDriftwood 16:47, 1 November 2012 (UTC)

A user I once knew said the actual dhuum fight took him ~30 mins with heroes.. mostly because he was rolling a really awful defensive setup..
As for the other quests.. they need practise but I'd hope that you could do it in under 3 hours. Chieftain Alex 17:35, 1 November 2012 (UTC)
The fight seemed much easier than i expected. I had hoped to knocklock dhuum with earthbind and two max fast casting psychic instability heroes and a charr legionnaire, but dhuum didn't seem to have much difficulty persecuting my heroes with his skills in spite of the knockdowns. Nonetheless the only time there ever seemed to be any danger was when I was slow to notice someone picking up a lot of DP. I had no real excuse for that either. it only took a couple dozen rainbow candycanes to maintain party morale at 10% by the end of the fight. Dhuum also takes damage much faster than I expected for someone with 80k health. He was down to 20% in under 10 minutes I think. I suspect user Magamdy had such a long fight with dhuum not due to his defensive setup, but rather because the reapers take such a godawful long time to max out dhuum's rest if nobody in the party dies. My advice to someone wanting to do this, would be setup your group almost exclusively for beating the 10 UW quests and make almost no skill decisions based on beating dhuum. Almost any group capable of reaching dhuum could beat him would be my guess. about the only thing I found to be too useful for the dhuum fight to pass up was a couple copies of Spiritual Pain on the mesmers as that made the minions of Dhuum evaporate pretty quickly even before I had switched targets from dhuum. I wonder if more could be added to the existing walkthrough to help first time attempts.Driftwood (talk) 03:37, 25 October 2013 (UTC)
